While I have been a professional photographer for nearly 16 years, I am also a regular person: a parent, a partner, and a friend. I want you to have fun at your photo session with me. My Why:
The journey began after taking my kids to a department store photo studio for their advertised special. I planned outfits, cleaned faces, and waited our turn. A rushed and inexperienced person managing the camera posed everyone stiffly and waived toys and feather dusters, visibly frustrated when my active children wiggled or looked away. I was stressed. I begged and bribed my kids to hold still and smile; instead, they cried. Our time was almost up, I felt like a terrible parent and was out the money for the session. When I was called to review the photos I nearly declined, and was surprised to find a captured image with both kids looking calm and happy. I hung the glossy 8x10 in my kitchen and AND FELT TERRIBLE. All I could see was guilt and regret when I looked at that picture. I vowed that I would find a way to get beautiful portraits and happy memories at the same time and started studying photography soon after.
